MCU May Trip
Location: Marysvale, Utah
Date: May 20-21, 2006
Minerals: Stilbite, Heulandite, Chabazite, Bixbyite
Trip Leaders: Jason Glenn (532-4556), Gerry Austin
We will be collecting at two Zeolite locations, one of which will require a rather strenuous hike. Additionally, we will be exploring a purported Bixbyite location (when I was there, I found what appeared to be Rutile crystals, not Bixbyite, but we should be able to examine the location more closely)
More details will follow....
More details:
We will meet at 9:30 AM at Tug's One Stop, at 10 n. State Street. This is right in the center of town, on US-89.
To get there: Take I-15 south to I-70, get on I-70 going East. Go about 15 miles and get off at the exit for US-89 South towards Panguitch/Kanab. Marysvale is 12 miles from the freeway.
Alternately, Take I-15 South to the Scipio Exit (Exit 188), take US-50 south/east through Salina to I-70, take I-70 west about 25 miles to the US-89 exit. As always, consult an accurate map before heading out.
This trip will involve surface collecting and hard rock collecting....so you will need an assortment of tools (rock hammer, chisel, sledgehammer). The Zeolite specimens are fragile, so you will need material for wrapping them. It is likely to be hot down there, so bring plenty of water .
